Johnny Hon
Johnny Sei-Hoe Hon (born 22 December 1971) is a Hong Kong born international businessman and founder of the Global Group.
Hon set up the Global Group of Companies after gaining expertise in financial planning, lending, portfolio management, tax structuring and trust formation at ABN AMRO Bank in Hong Kong. Hon is a qualified financial adviser and is an Associate of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI). As Chairman of Global Group International Holdings Ltd., the business has continued to evolve and grow under his visionary leadership. In just ten years, Hon has built up an international conglomerate, with diverse interests ranging over banking, property development, financial services, education, media, entertainment and leisure, sports, gaming, telecoms, mining and biotechnology. He has helped numerous companies and individuals to raise funding and has been particularly active in assisting a growing number of Chinese companies to list on the London markets.[1] In addition to building the Global Group of companies, Hon has also pursued a wide range of charitable, diplomatic and political interests.
Personal Background
Early Life and Family
Hon was born in Hong Kong on 22 December 1971 to his parents Hon Tak Sun (Father) and Wong Ling, Betty (Mother). He is the eldest of two sons. In 1985, at the age of thirteen, Hon moved to the United Kingdom to study at Uppingham School. He graduated from King's College London in 1993, and was awarded a place at Hughes Hall at the University of Cambridge where he obtained a Ph.D. degree in Psychiatry. He also holds postgraduate qualifications from the School of Oriental and African Studies at London University and from Harvard University, as well as being a guest Professor at a number of well-known Chinese universities.
Hon is married to Selina Lok-Yee Hon (23rd July 2005) and has one daughter, Cecilia Yan-Tung Hon.
Career
After obtaining a Ph.D. degree in Psychiatry, Hon felt his impact on people and the community would be greatly enhanced if he channeled his expertise as a businessman. It was then that he made the decision to return to Hong Kong to join the private banking division of ABN AMRO Bank, where he gained further experience in a range of financial services. In 2001, Hon began constructing what is now Global Group International Holdings Ltd., a multinational company with diverse interests ranging over banking, property development, financial services, education, media, entertainment and leisure, sports, gaming, telecoms, mining and biotechnology.[2]
Public Life
Whilst building the Global Group of companies from scratch, Hon has also managed to pursue a wide range of charitable, diplomatic and political interests.
Politics
Hon is the Ambassador-at-Large and Honorary Consul of Grenada in Hong Kong and holds official positions with four governments. Besides, he is often consulted by Presidents, Prime Ministers and other state leaders who value his advice and insights.
